Current sponsorships

MainPower supports several community initiatives, events, and activities throughout the Waimakariri, Hurunui and Kaikōura regions.

Compass FM

Compass FM is run by the North Canterbury Radio Trust who provide a strong and passionate community focused FM radio station for North Canterbury, covering the Hurunui and Waimakariri districts. The radio station has been a part of the North Canterbury community since 2011 and is unique given it is the only radio station in New Zealand that is on full power transmission.

Enterprise North Canterbury (ENC)

ENC works alongside businesses to develop an innovative and prosperous region. The organisation promotes economic growth by providing support in three key areas; developing and maintaining a strong regional brand identity, supporting existing and new businesses to grow and prosper and to survive and thrive and growing visitor numbers and value to North Canterbury

Life Education

Life Education empowers children with the knowledge and confidence to make healthy decisions for themselves. Working with schools to reach children through the Health Sciences (part of the New Zealand Curriculum), Life Education’s mobile classrooms provide a unique learning environment through audio-visual materials, interactive models and Harold, the Giraffe.

Satisfy Food Rescue

Satisfy Food Rescue was born with the sole aim of rescuing food from local retailers and growers to community organisations that help those in need. They act as the middleperson between the food industry (i.e. food retailers, wholesalers, or growers) to redistribute surplus food to existing local community organisations or local charities (e.g. food banks) that are already helping those in need. The Satisfy team are all passionate about reducing good wastage and making healthy food available to everyone.

North Canterbury Sports Trust

The North Canterbury Sports Trust provides recreational and sporting benefits to the community. MainPower supports the Trust’s work to deliver several school sport and recreation community initiatives in the North Canterbury and Kaikoura region including the MainPower Primary Schools Coaching Programme, MainPower Youth Sports Scholarships and the WaiSwim Programme Swim programme which provides swimming and water safety lessons to school children across Waimakariri, Hurunui and Kaikoura districts.

MainPower Stadium

Opened in August 2021 the Mainpower stadium is one of the largest community sports grounds in the South Island. The facility includes four full-size sports courts, a fitness centre, group fitness studios, sports health provider treatment rooms, a sports administration house and multi-function meeting rooms. The MainPower stadium is a pillar of community wellbeing with a jam-packed schedule of clubs, groups, sports and sport and recreation activity.

MainPower Hockey Turf

The MainPower Hockey Turf, is home to the two local hockey clubs as well as hosting a variety of competition fixtures, club and rep trainings, and coaching clinics.

The world-class blue turf facility is helping to further the development of hockey in North Canterbury at all age levels.

Empower Energy

Empower Energy is a on a mission to end energy hardship in Aotearoa. They are a Charitable Trust that aims to address energy affordability through peer-to-peer donations. The Empower Energy platform allows any person or business to donate through their power bill (or Stripe). Empower Energy also allows users to share surplus energy from solar, to be directed to those who could use a hand with their energy bills

Hutton’s Shearwater

The nationally endangered Hutton’s shearwater/Kaikōura tītī (Puffinus huttoni) has only two breeding colonies remaining in the Seaward Kaikōura Range.  We fund the Hutton’s Shearwater Charitable Trust ‘s efforts to encourage and promote the preservation, conservation, research, public education, and sustainable management of the endangered Hutton’s shearwater. And, the Kaikoura Wildlife Centre to provide rehabilitation services to injured Hutton’s Shearwater.

Electric Air

Electric Air is on a mission to clean up the skies by encouraging owners and operators to choose electric planes. In 2021, ElectricAir broke the world record for the farthest flight over water by a battery electric plane when their Pipistrel crossed the Cook Strait of New Zealand. The plane is also approximately 70% quieter than its fossil-fueled equivalents. The plane’s battery lasts up to 90 minutes and can be recharged in under an hour making it ideal for pilot training.

Community Wellbeing

Community Wellbeing North Canterbury Trust has been supporting local families, whānau and individuals for more than 30 years to reach their full potential through free wellbeing services offered across the Waimakariri and Hurunui. Community Wellbeing focuses their support on enhancing strengths, removing barriers, and helping a wide variety of people to meet life’s challenges.

Department of Conservation (DoC)

Kākāriki karaka, or orange-fronted parakeet, are small forest-dwelling birds with an orange strip above their beak. It’s New Zealand’s rarest parakeet with just a few hundred birds left in the wild. Its population is approximately 300-450 in the wild.
MainPower supports the Orange-fronted Kakariki Recovery Programme by maintaining a hydro power generation and electrical assets at a DoC research hut.

North Canterbury Rural Support Trust

The North Canterbury Rural Support Trust is part of a nationwide network providing free and confidential wellbeing services to the agricultural industry, including counselling, business planning and financial advice.
The Trust has access to networks, services and government funding and can help people navigate their financial and personal challenges, or assist during climatic adverse events like drought, flood, or heavy snow.

MainPower Amberley Swimming Pool

The Amberley Swimming Pool is a five lane, public swimming pool situated at the entrance of the Amberley Reserve. The swimming pool offers swimming lessons for people of all ages and abilities, fitness classes and inflatable fun for kids.

It is a well-loved community asset that is also utalised by surrounding schools. 

MainPower Waiau Community Pool

Located in the heart of the Waiau township, next to the Waiau Primary School, the pool is open throughout the summer season for community and visitor use.

Completed in 2019, the pool is community managed. It’s a great place for families to relax and play, and hosts swimming lessons, aqua-fitness classes, community and competition events.

MainPower Tennis Centre

The Mainpower Tennis Centre is the home of the Coldstream Tennis Club. It is in the heart of North Canterbury, located next to the MainPower Stadium. The facility consists of 10 world class and fully lit courts and a new clubhouse.
