Outages

There are two types of power outages; Planned & Unplanned

If the power outage is planned your chosen electricity retailer will have advised you ahead of time and provide the date and time this will occur. Make sure to note this date down so you are prepared for the outage.

If your power goes off, and it is not a planned outage, check the MainPower outages map to see if your area is affected by an unplanned outage.

If you have any concerns or would like to advise us of a hazard, call us on 0800 30 90 80.

  • Planned outages are when we need to do planned maintenance on our network. These are scheduled ahead of time, so that work can be completed safely.

  • Unplanned outages can be caused by anything from cars hitting our power poles, debris flying into our overhead lines, or people hitting our underground cables with digging equipment. Windstorms or earthquakes are also likely to cause unplanned outages.
