Power Systems Engineer (Primary Systems)

An internal promotion has made way for a motivated and experienced Power Systems Engineer (primary systems) to join our team. Reporting to the Engineering & Design Manager, you will be responsible for design, development, and support of our power systems and primary network assets. You will be pivotal to ensuring the safety, effective operation, and reliability of MainPower’s network.


Working with a talented team of Engineers and Designers, you will be contributing your expertise to new substation and distribution projects, preparation and review of technical designs, standards, drawings and studies, and technical support for existing assets. You will have opportunities as Project Engineer on a range of HV construction projects, and a chance to shape the technical direction of a growing electricity network.


You will have a solid grounding in primary electrical design and be able to demonstrate:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Systems Engineering, or equivalent
  • 3+ years’ relevant experience in distribution or transmission network fields
  • Strong technical knowledge of industry standards and codes
  • Experience managing consultants and suppliers to deliver optimal outcomes
  • Site experience in constructing or commissioning projects
  • Rigorous document management and change control
  • An ability to take initiative, combined with sound judgement
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, with a flair for communicating technical information to non-technical people
  • Superb planning skills to ensure priorities and tasks are completed on time
  • Absolute commitment to workplace and public safety
  • Experience in system studies, load flow modelling, fault investigations, or power quality analysis would be an advantage.

Line Mechanic

If you have a passion for working outdoors, enjoy working as part of a team while providing a service for the local community, and are a qualified Line Mechanic then this could be the job for you. We are seeking a qualified distribution Line Mechanic to join our Overhead team to undertake maintenance and capital works on our Overhead distribution network. Some manual civil work is also required as part of this role.


Applicants must hold a current NZ Line Mechanic Registration, a current practicing licence and have proven experience as a line mechanic. We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

Utility Worker

We are seeking a Utility Worker to join our experienced Underground Services team. The primary objectives of this position are to install underground electricity services, assist with the excavation and reinstatement of trenches, and the transportation and storage of underground services materials.

Lead Scheduler

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Scheduler to join our Rangiora team. You will be responsible for managing the overall activity of planning and scheduling and developing the works plan. Utilising our scheduling software, you will continuously monitor resource levels, skillsets, and ability to meet customer demand, while creating and managing the 12-month works plan to meet MainPower’s Asset Management Plan (AMP) requirements.


To be successful in this role you will have excellent organisation and planning skills, with the ability to work with a varied workforce and range of stakeholders to ensure the work is planned and appropriately scheduled. You will have exceptional communication and collaboration skills and be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and have the drive and ability to maintain and develop our tools and processes.


Ideally you will have:

  • Proven experience in a lead role as a work/project scheduler, production planner or project coordinator, or relevant experience
  • Strong experience with project and program reporting
  • Online scheduling tool and/or system experience, and proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Well organised, with the ability to multi-task, prioritise and manage competing demands.
  • A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to provide detailed information and advice in a clear and positive manner to business and technical teams

Commercial Development Analyst

We have a great opportunity for a Commercial Development Analyst to work in our Commercial team. The role will report to and work closely with our Strategy and Business Development Manager and support the development and operation of our business development initiatives, including supporting our internal planning framework, analysis of our retail function and our pricing models.


To successfully deliver these tasks you will understand business planning processes, have excellent organisation and planning skills, be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with a varied workforce, and have the drive and ability to make a difference.


Ideally you will have:

  • 5 years’ experience in commercial analytical roles.
  • Experience developing financial models, with strong excel skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and critical thinking.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • An ability to juggle and prioritise multiple tasks and see them through to completion.
