The three recipients of the 2016 MainPower Hurunui Natural Environment Fund were announced late last week, each taking a share of $10,000 to put towards projects aimed at increasing the Hurunui district's biodiversity.

Established in partnership with the Hurunui District Council, the fund is open to residents of the Hurunui district and supports environmental projects run by volunteer groups or individuals.

The Gore Bay Port Robinson Reserves Board were awarded $7000 to eradicate wilding pines from the coastal reserve land of Port Robinson.

The Cheviot Golf Club were awarded $1500 to re-establish native bush, shrub land and riparian plantings along the Crystal Brook waterway at the southern end of the Cheviot Golf Club. The Waikari Volunteer Fire Brigade also received $1500 to create a walkway through waste land adjacent to the Waikari Village Green.
