Nominations closed late last week for the MainPower Trust elections, and Trust Chair Kevin Brookfield says the Trust was delighted to receive a record 13 nominations for the three vacancies.
“The Trust plays an important role in the North Canterbury community, given its 100% ownership of MainPower New Zealand Ltd on behalf of people on the MainPower network (Beneficiaries). It’s heartening to see the network community recognise the value of being part of the Trust and a large number of people putting their names forward for the election.”
The Trust monitors MainPower’s performance, community involvement, and appoints MainPower’s directors. It ensures that rebates and discounts are returned and that initiatives that support the MainPower community are funded.
“We’re delighted there is such high interest in the Trust positions and would love to see everyone on the Network who is eligible to vote do so once the election opens. It’s a very simple process and people can vote for up to three people, given there are three positions open. Anyone who is a Qualifying Customer can – and should – vote,” Mr Brookfield says.
“It’s also great to see candidates from across the network – from Kaikōura to Hanmer Springs and all through the Hurunui and Waimakariri Districts.
“Voting opens on Monday 9 February and closes on Friday 6 March, but people shouldn’t leave it until the last minute. Elections NZ have allowed for online and postal voting, so people should keep an eye on their email and letterbox for voting packs. And of course, all the information about the candidates can be found on our website – including links to the voting page at Electionz.com.”
MainPower’s network extends from just south of the Waimakariri River in Kainga and Stewarts Gully, to Kaikōura and inland to Hanmer Springs. With more than 46,000 connections the Trust hopes to see a record turnout in voting numbers to match the record number of candidates.
