Troubleshoot your power outage to find out if it is caused by something on your property.
Unplanned power outages can occur at any time. When an unplanned outage happens, it may be due to a fault on the MainPower network or it might be caused by an issue on your property.
Scroll down for some tips to check if the outage might be caused by something on your property.
Unexpected power outage?
Here are some tips to help you diagnose the cause of an outage:
- Check the MainPower outage map. Find out if your area is affected by a current power outage.
- Check the main switch is on at your switchboard. If a fuse is blown, then the problem is likely in your home and you may require a call-out from an electrician.
- Check if your neighbours have power. If multiple houses in your area are without power or hot water, it is likely the outage is linked to a problem on our network.
- Find out if it is a planned or unplanned outage. Check our outage map for all current planned and unplanned outages. The map will tell you if we have listed an outage for scheduled work or a known fault in your area.

Your electricity retailer is responsible for telling you about upcoming planned power outages.
